PROS joins ICARO-2

The second International Conference on Advances in Radiation Oncology (ICARO-2) organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency was held at the IAEA's Headquarters in Vienna, Austria last June 20-23, 2017. There were more than 400 participants from 96 countries and the Philippines had a total of 15 delegates, namely Drs. Miriam Joy Calaguas, Nonette Cupino, Manuel Martin Lopez, Elsie Dimaano, Sherwin Cala, Faiqha Bagis, Leizl Valerio, Ma. Conchitina Mendoza, Maria Angelica Alquero, Warren Bacorro, Angela Gaerlan-Tagle, Elaine Limkin, Jerickson Abbie Flores, Mario Go and Candice Chin Chin Yu.

The conference was a mix of parallel sessions, teaching lectures and proferred papers with the aim of defining the current role and future potential of technological, medical physics and molecular/biological innovations for their incorporation into routine clinical practice in radiation oncology. Dr. Warren Bacorro presented two papers during the Breast and Cervix Cancer session entitled "Nodal doses during image-guided adaptive brachytherapy for cervical cancer and implication to simultaneous integrated boost" and "Dose-volume effects in pathologic lymph nodes in cervical cancer" wherein Prof. Richard Poetter served as chair. Another paper was presented by Dr. Jerickson Abbie Flores, a senior resident of Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, under the Prostate and Head and Neck Cancer session entitled "Matrix Metalloproteinaise I (MMP-1) Levels as a Predictive Marker of Oral Mucositis Severity Among Head And Neck Carcinoma Patients Undergoing Radiotherapy" wherein Dr. Kenneth Hu also delivered a lecture on "Overview of radiotherapy for head and neck cancer."

The big success of ICARO-2 will surely pave the way for the third conference in the near future.
